Female pelvic floor anatomy, which developed since the early 20th century, has had a variety of theories, including integral theory, three levels of vaginal support theory, "hammock hypothesis", and three-chamber system. Supporting structures such as pelvic floor muscles, fascia and ligament play an important role in maintaining the normal function of pelvic floor, among which levator ani muscle group is one of the most important supporting structures.
